Greetings from Pharos Editions,

Pharos is a new imprint of Seattle’s Dark Coast Press that publishes inexpensive, exquisitely designed editions of out-of-print, lost, or otherwise rare books of distinction. 

Many other publishers have launched similar backlist imprints to great success.   Today’s digital marketplace has made practically everything available and, as we are all well-aware, has triggered hysterical fears over the death of print.  The only way not to let print die is to re-establish our relationship to it. Pharos is partnering with established authors to shape the list by selecting titles of personal importance and crafting introductions to those works. Every story will be different and each introduction intimately varied and unique, extending the participating author’s connection with his or her audience.  

We would be honored to have you write an introduction to a title of personal importance that you believe is out-of-print or otherwise hard to find.

The introduction can take any form. You have complete creative license to communicate your passion. Pharos will make every effort to locate the definitive text and secure rights when necessary. We will then repackage and publish the volume with your introduction. The end product will be an edition of which we both can be proud.

Our first titles will ship in 2013.  Pharos will begin aggressively promoting the imprint online and at BEA 2012 in New York.  All primary sales and marketing efforts will be tailored to brick and mortar stores and will be conducted against the backdrop of a wider effort to promote the preeminent elegance of print editions.
